Cocaine Cowboys Movie

Just watched a new documentary movie based on the real cocaine traffickers and dealers back in the 70’s/80’s from Miami. This film was an excellent incite into a lot of what happened back then and who the real dealers where.

The city of Miami was both torn apart and also built upon drug money as this documentary points out. The film takes hours and hours of real tv footage, news reels, and accounts from some of the dealers them selves (I guess they already served their time and can speak about it).

Its very interesting to watch this film and watch how all of this unfolded from easy going of flying the drugs into the city and then violence that eventually raised the murder rate up into the 600’s for Miami. Some of these guys made billions and I’m sure the ones that got out have a nice stash of millions hidden somewhere, I know I would if I was in their situation.

I definitely recommend this movie , how ever be warned their is a lot of footage and snap shots of dead people, non of this made me gag but I’m just giving you an early warning if you watch this movie with your girlfriend or wife..

Here is the Synopsis taken from Magnolia Pictures.

” The cocaine trade of the 70s and 80s had an indelible impact on contemporary Miami. Smugglers and distributors forever changed a once sleepy retirement community into one of the world’s most glamorous hot spots, the epicenter of a $20 billion annual business fed by Colombia’s Medellin cartel. By the early 80s, Miami’s tripled homicide rate had made it the murder capital of the country, for which a Time cover story dubbed the city “Paradise Lost.”

I give it a 4 out of 5…

Out on DVD now I think :P
